UNLOCKING THE COUNTRY PHASE 3: COMMUNAL WORSHIP Scotland’s Catholic Bishops have welcomed the First Minister’s comments on Thursday 9 July, 2020 on places of worship, and have announced the resumption of communal worship in Catholic parishes from 15 July, 2020. Commenting on the move, the President of the Bishops’ Conference of Scotland, Bishop Hugh Gilbert said: “Over the past month, our parishes have been preparing for the safe resumption of communal prayer and the celebration of Mass, which is at the centre of the life of the church. To have been unable to attend Mass for many months has been a source of real sadness for Scotland’s Catholics and I am sure there will be great joy at the prospect of returning.” It is with much excitement, therefore, that I inform everyone that our two churches will be open for public Masses and other communal activities from Sunday 19th July 2020. Bishop Gilbert added: “While thanking the Scottish Government for listening to the calls on the subject of communal worship, we would remind parishioners that the obligation to attend Sunday Mass remains suspended and ask those who return to do so in accordance with the infection control measures in force in each parish, mindful always of the need to protect themselves and others.” Masses in our parish will, therefore, be celebrated at the usual times in both churches starting with the Vigil Mass in Forfar on Saturday evening. The Mass times are available on the front page of this newsletter. Please, when coming to the church for Mass or for private prayers or devotion, take note of the following: (1) Please use the sanitizer on entry and exit (2) Wear a scarf, mask or face covering. If you forget yours, pick one at the church entrance before entering. (3) Follow the one way system (4) Follow the direction of the pass-keepers to and from your seat (5) Leave swiftly when you have finished your prayers or received the Holy Communion (6) Finally, please do not congregate in the Church, in the porch or in the immediate vicinity outside. Thank you.
